Otto Eckmann (1865 – 1902)
A fun vintage poster from the late 19th century: the invitation to a fundraiser for the ‘Branch Association Berlin of the Patriotic Women’s Association. The glass holding Siren-type lady is an obvious reference to the Loreley, a rock around which the River Rhine flows in a steep curve, and where many ships have had accidents – as the Lady Loreley was sitting on the rock singing and combing her long golden hair…
‘Bei Kroll’ means that the evening took place at the Kroll Opera House in Berlin, which was located opposite the Reichstag building.
