Young Child with a Skull (Vanitas), 1612
A classic ‘memento mori’ work – an allegory of transience depicting a young boy pointing at a skull. Next to it is a richly decorated vase with a lavish bouquet of flowers that alludes to the abundance of the world. The hourglass in the background symbolises the passage of time.
The matt Hahnemühle paper is a particularly elegant choice for these editions of old engravings.
