Barberini Faun, Magenta
Charles Bach is a Berlin-based artist who works with digital photomontage. His works frequently revolve around museum culture, art, and cultural themes.
Here, the subject is the famous ‘Barberini Faun’, a sculpture believed to have been created around 220 BC and located in the Glyptothek in Munich. Also known as the ‘Barberini Satyr’, this sculpture represents a sleepily intoxicated satyr or faun—a young, muscular man. This statue has been admired for generations, not least because of its captivating erotic aura.
This series specifically references some very well-known icons of art history. The sculptures are boldly coloured in vibrant shades reminiscent of modern art movements like Pop Art. This creates artworks that successfully merge historical and modern art epochs. The results are absolute visual eye-catchers: ‘wall jewels’ that can enrich your rooms both individually or as series series
