Karl Blossfeldt,
Blumenbachia Hieronymi
Karl Blossfeldt (1865 – 1932) was a renowned German photographer who is best known for his strictly formal plant photographs. He is regarded as one of the leading representatives of New Objectivity in photographic art. His best known work “Urformen der Kunst” was published in Berlin in 1928.
Blossfeldt’s macro photographs are characterised by their masterful use of light and their astonishing caption of fine detail. In these photographs, some of the plants remind on metal ornaments. The graphic minimalism of his pictures also contributes to the timeless aesthetic of these classics.
