Edvard Munch, Despair
The painting “Despair” dates from 1892. It shows a man bent over a railing under a red sky. The picture is regarded as a precursor to the well-known painting “The Scream”. Munch deals in this painting with his personal experience of an anxiety attack during a walk at sunset.
