Alphonse Mucha: La Dame aux Camelias
Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was a Czech painter, poster artist, graphic artist and illustrator. He is considered to be one of the most famous artists of the ‘Art Nouveau’.
Mucha had his greatest successes in Paris, where he lived for a long period of his life. This is why its name is mainly known in its French form.
Many of his graphics were commissioned for advertising campaigns of the time. Mucha achieved his breakthrough with a poster for the play ‘Gismonda’ with Sarah Bernhardt. Bernhardt was so enthusiastic about this work that she signed Mucha for several years.
