Adriaen Coorte (c. 1665–1707/10)
Still Life with Asparagus, 1697
Coorte is known today for mainly creating small, intimate still lifes. These modest paintings with simple motifs such as asparagus or berries stand in stark contrast to the overloaded still lifes that were fashionable at the time. The focus here is on the fine depiction of a single vegetable and has an astonishingly timeless effect.
