Singing Birds<\/strong>, from the encyclopedic publication ‘A History of Earth and Animated Nature by Oliver Goldsmith. This publication attempted to combine a history of the earth with a description of its geographical features and of many of its species.<\/p>\n

What often seems amusing to our modern sensibility when observing animal depictions of the 18th and 19th centuries is the portrayal of relatively expressive ‘human-like’ facial expressions. This is also the case with many of these images.<\/p>\n
